Nottingham Editor
If you’re an author who’s based in Nottingham, or perhaps nearby in Derby or Leicester or Lincoln, you may like to work with an editor who’s close to home.
A writer and editor with more than 20 years’ experience, I work with authors all over the world and across the UK, but I especially enjoy supporting authors in and around Nottingham, where I live.
Why work with a local book editor?
Since going freelance in 2006, I’ve worked with a lot of authors – authors in London and Glasgow and New York and Dubai, and authors much closer to home. I’ve found that local authors like to work with me because it feels like we’re making a closer connection. When you’re an author, your book is your baby, and it’s difficult to hand it over to anyone, let alone an editor (even the most seasoned writer can feel wobbly about feedback). When your editor is just down the road, figuratively speaking, there’s a greater feeling of trust and connection.
A good author–editor relationship is important, and that’s something I pride myself on with my clients. I’m not a machine revising manuscripts; I’m a person who’s passionate about writing and books, and the best part of my job is supporting authors to achieve their goals. Many of my clients work with me on their next book and their next, because they see me as their editor who genuinely cares about their publishing journey.

Meeting for a coffee
You may be thinking, Fabulous. I’ll work with a Nottingham book editor and we’ll meet every Thursday in the Waterstones café and talk about my writing over cake and coffee.
That does sound rather wonderful, but please keep in mind that would constitute coaching. I am happy to coach authors in person at a location I can easily reach, but I’m unable to offer this as a free service.
I do, however, meet up with long-terms clients on occasion, often when they’re in town and sometimes when I travel. It’s always a pleasure to sit down together after so many months or years of working remotely, and talk books and writing and publishing.

And finally… editing for books about Nottingham
Perhaps you’ve landed on this page but you’re not local to Nottingham – however, your book is about the area. You may be writing a history of Newstead Abbey or a biography of Watson Fothergill, or exploring the legend of Robin Hood.
In that case, you may choose to work with a Nottingham editor. I don’t claim to be the world’s foremost expert on Nottingham and its environs, but I have lived here for ten years, and I have a good feel for the area and its culture. Feel free to drop me a line if you think a Nottingham-based editor would be a good fit for your book.
