About Me
I’m a professional writer and editor with more than 20 years’ experience, gained both in-house and as a freelancer.
Since going freelance in 2006, I’ve worked with all kinds of clients, from charities to businesses, government bodies to cultural organisations.
But my passion lies in books: writing books, developing books, editing books and proofreading books for publishers and authors.

Working with publishers
I’ve edited books across a range of genres for publishers. One of my main publisher clients has been Wiley: I’ve developed, copy-edited or proofread more than 70 ‘For Dummies’ guides for John Wiley & Sons in the UK and Wiley-VCH in Germany.
I’ve edited academic books for Routledge, Taylor & Francis, educational books for Folens, travel guides for Frommer’s and history books for Imperial War Museums Publishing. I’ve ghostwritten guides for nurseries in India and developed workbooks for pupils in China.
Working with authors
I work with experienced authors and first-time authors; with authors who are traditionally published and authors who publish independently.
I help authors to share their stories through memoirs and to tell others’ stories through biographies. I ghostwrite, edit and proofread history books, business books, psychology books, self-help books and ‘how-to’ guides.
My editorial background
Before going freelance, I built my editorial experience working for a PR agency, a non-profit organisation and a publishing house.
As a freelancer, my client list has included:
Cultural organisations like the Imperial War Museums
Charities like the Scout Association, FARM-Africa and Turning Point
Companies like Volkswagen, James Villas and Associated British Ports
Government bodies like the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation and the National Assessment Agency
Educational institutions like the Universities of Surrey, Brighton and Liverpool
I’ve also worked with a lot of fiction authors, such as Sif Sigmarsdóttir (Hodder), Neil Spring (Quercus), Karen Clarke (Little, Brown), and bestselling indie/hybrid authors Rob Sinclair and Christopher Greyson.
I now specialise in ghostwriting and editing non-fiction books for authors and publishers.
A little more about me…
In 2010, I co-wrote the book How to Succeed as a Freelancer in Publishing (How To Books, a Little, Brown imprint), which was featured in The Bookseller’s ‘Best Books on Publishing’.
I’ve given talks on editing for companies and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. I’ve trained fellow freelance editors/proofreaders. And I’ve written a regular column for the Society of Young Publishers.
I’m based in Beeston, Nottingham, near the university (of which I’m an alumni).
From here I work with authors across the UK and beyond. I have clients in countries as diverse as the United States, Poland, Germany, Sweden, China, India and the United Arab Emirates.
When I’m not editing/writing/reading books, you’ll find me out and about with my children.
We particularly love exploring historic buildings, museums, art galleries and, of course, bookshops and libraries.
