Terms and Conditions
I am a registered sole trader operating as Wilson Editorial. The following terms and conditions apply to all services I carry out for clients through this business.
1. Service
In commissioning me, you are agreeing that I will carry out the service according to the outline in the project agreement. I will carry out the service personally; I do not subcontract work.
Clients are expected to understand the industry’s standards for editing and proofreading. The Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading provides guidance.
Unless otherwise agreed, my editorial services include checking the material once only. I am then happy to answer questions. Should you wish me to look at the material a second time, this will incur an additional cost.
2. Deadline
The deadline will be agreed before the project commences. I reserve the right to alter the deadline if the brief changes and in the event that the client fails to meet any agreed deadlines during the course of the project.
3. Fee and payment
Costs agreed at the start of a project are not negotiable at a later stage. Any changes to the agreed brief and deadline after the project is underway could incur an additional fee. Should the client decide to terminate a project before completion, I will invoice for the work completed to date.
For registered companies in the UK, invoices for work completed are payable within 14 days. For individuals in the UK, project fees of £500 or less are payable in full in advance. Payment for project fees exceeding £500 may be split into two instalments, the first paid upfront and the second on completion of the project.
Under the terms of the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 and Late Payment of Commercial Debts Regulations 2002 and 2013, I reserve the right to charge interest and compensation for overdue invoices. Should an invoice remain outstanding after 14 days, I reserve the right to refuse to undertake any further work, including work in progress, until the outstanding invoice is paid.
For clients outside the UK, project fees are payable in full in advance. (This is because it’s next to impossible for me to recover unpaid fees outside the UK.)
4. Privacy and confidentiality
My Privacy Policy outlines the information I collect from clients, and how I use and store it. Where required, I am happy to sign a confidentiality agreement (NDA).
5. Copyright
The client retains copyright of their own writing. Once full payment is received for a project, the copyright for any content created by me as part of the project passes to the client.
I reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions, with notice to the client. Last updated 9 April 2025.
